About me
Katarzyna Gacek Duda
Multiflutist, she is the author of unprecedented ethnic ornaments for the modern transverse flute based on the sound palette of selected ethnic aerophones from around the world. She plays a wooden classical flute made by Sankyo.
In addition to the classical transverse flute, she specializes in playing Polish and Romanian ethnic aerophones from the Carpathian region. She performs concerts in Poland and internationally. Besides her own bands and musical projects, she collaborates with other artists as a session or accompanying musician. She gives lectures and presentations on the flute traditions of the world. Her collection includes about 200 ethnic flutes and several plucked string instruments.
She promotes world flute music through lectures, workshops, and concerts for adults and children, where she performs an artistic program on instruments such as:
- Native American Flutes
- Mayan Ocarinas
- Turkish and Arab Ney
- Bulgarian and Turkish Kaval, and the Polish oblique flute
- Houlusi
- Dizi
- Bawu
- Slovak Fujara, and many other aerophones.
She collaborates with flute makers and builders from all over the world. Most often, she plays instruments made by the Polish craftsman, Marek Bzowski.
She comes from the Żywiec region (Żywiecczyzna), an area where musical traditions associated with the rituals of the Beskid highlanders are still cultivated today. From a young age, she has played the shepherd's pipe (piszczałka pasterska), the pasture fujara (fujara sałaśnikowa), other Carpathian aerophones, and the Beskid-style violin. Her passions include music, life in the mountains, the forest, her huskies, traveling with her family, and all the flutes of the world.
